FAQs
What does ‘On call’ actually mean?
I will be on call from when you reach 38 weeks pregnant. This means that you become my priority. I will be reachable 24/7 and ready for when labour starts. I will stay close to home and be prepared to leave at any time to get to you.
If you go into labour before the on call period starts, I will still aim to get to you as soon as I can, but I always aim to have a back up doula.
Do you support home and hospital births?
Definitely. All women should be encouraged to birth their baby in the place they feel most comfortable and safe. And whether this is in the hospital or their own home, I will fully support their decision.
Do you support planned caesarean sections?
Of course. I support a range of different births, and it is important that all women have the support they need no matter how they birth their baby. Caesarean births can be just as magical as any other birth, and having a doula supporting you can give you and your family the best start.
How will you work with my partner during the birth?
It is very important to me to make sure your partner is involved in the birth as much as they choose to be. During our antenatal sessions, we will discuss what support you would like, and I will show you and your partner techniques in which they can use to support you during labour.
What if you don’t make it to the birth?
During the on-call period, I will be contactable 24 hours a day and aim to get to you as soon as possible once active labour has started. The doula community is a very close and supportive one, and I will always ensure that there will be a back up doula available to be with you in case of emergencies (broken limbs, natural disasters, you get the idea).
